PIRATES of '99

Season Ends On Usual Note
|
The Pirates concluded their season with an 18-3 loss to the Dudes and a 23-2 loss to the Gashouse Gorillas. David Gullo finished the season as the leading hitter with a .667 batting average in 18 at-bats, but it was Juan Santiago who is the club's MVP as he hit 2 home runs, knocked in a team leading 13 runs, hit a team leading 3 triples and slapped a team leading 20 hits. His .455 batting average was the best amongst those who played in ten or more games. Juan is pictured on the left with Ramon Urena, the Pirates tough luck pitcher, on the right.

Noelle Voska is flanked by manager Carson Van Lindt and first baseman/rightfielder, Ray Benoit as they enjoy a laugh before a game. Smiles would soon be replaced by frowns and later fits of anger but all is usually forgotten by Monday. Noelle did a splended job of keeping score all year and has said she would become the new manager next season if Carson should decide to file for free agency and play with another team. His contract is being negotiated as you read this.

RAY BENOIT or is that Benoit Hogue
|
Ray Benoit is not pictured for any special reason other than that was the last photo I had to transfer to the site. Ray played excellent ball this season despite hitting a little slump at the end of the season which saw his average fall to .258. His goal in the offseason is to get Carson on a pair of skates and see how well he does when trying to handle a puck. "Don't think I don't remember all the times he was yelling for me to throw the ball. Wait till I start doing the same when he flubs a pass from the left wing," said Ray as he sipped on his Dunkin' Donuts coffee.
